ABSTRACT
Studied the cognitive styles of patients with schizophrenia. Focus was on testing the hypothesis that schizophrenia is associated with a particular cognitive style that is characterized by avoidance of ambiguity and a reduced level of abstraction. Human Ss: 25 male and female West German adults (mean age 27 yrs) (acute schizophrenia). 25 male and female West German adults (mean age 44 yrs) (chronic schizophrenia). 25 male and female West German adults (neurotic disorders). 30 male and female West German adults (borderline personality disorders). Ss' responses to the Holtzman Inkblot Technique by W. H. Holtzman et al (1961) were analyzed with the Dogmatism Text Evaluation Procedure by S. Ertel (1972) and the Abstraction Suffix Procedure by U. Gunther and N. Groeben (1978). Intergroup differences were analyzed. (English abstract) (PsycLIT Database Copyright 1992 American Psychological Assn, all rights reserved)
